
Sajjad Sharif was born in Dhaka on September 24, 1963, and has been writing poems since the early 1980s. He was involved with the avant-garde literary journal Gandiva, which reshaped the recent scenario of Bangla poetry. His first collection of poems, Chhurichikitsa (Knife-Therapy), was published in 2006. His poems have been published in many national and international journals. His poem has also been included in Language for a New Century, an anthology of contemporary poetry from the Middle East and Asia, published by Norton. Sajjad also translates poems and writes essays on literary and cultural issues. Professionally Sajjad has been engaged with journalism since 1991. He is currently Managing Editor of Prothom Alo, the largest daily newspaper of Bangladesh.
