
Samaresh Mazumdar is a household name in the Bangla literary scene, both in Bangladesh and India. He made his foray into the literary arena in 1967 when his first story appeared in the celebrated literary magazine Desh. His first novel, Dour (Run), was also published in Desh, in 1976. The likes of Saatkahon, the trilogy of Uttaradhikar, Kaalbela and Kalpurush and the detective character Arjun have cemented his place in the hearts of the readers. He has also won many literary awards, including the Bankim Puroshkar, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Ananda Purashkar.
